Why Eat Pumpkin Seeds?

Pumpkin seeds are high in protein, iron, and zinc, and they’re one of the best sources of magnesium, a mineral that helps stabilize blood pressure, build bone strength, and even reduce stress.

Pumpkin seeds have relatively high amounts of the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is the amino acid the body uses to make the feel-good and relaxation neurotransmitter serotonin.  Pumpkin seeds also contain high amounts of zinc, which can help the brain convert tryptophan into serotonin. Serotonin levels are typically low in people who cannot stay asleep and wake throughout the night.

Pumpkin seeds have one of the highest contents of phytosterols of any seeds or nuts regularly eaten as a food. At around 260 mg per 100 grams, only pistachio nuts and sunflower seeds are higher. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition that looked at eighty-four separate trials on plant phytosterols and cholesterol levels showed that intake of a little over two grams of phytosterols per day lowered cholesterol levels around eight percent.

At least two research studies have shown eating pumpkin seeds regularly could help prevent the most common type of kidney stones – calcium oxalate stones. Pumpkin seeds have compounds that appear to both reduce the levels of substances that create kidney stones whilst at the same time increasing compounds that inhibit kidney stone formation. 5 to 10 grams daily has been suggested as having a beneficial effect on kidney stone prevention and regular consumption would be important.

The zinc in pumpkin seeds helps protect skin cells membranes and maintain the connective collagen. Good levels of zinc in our diet also helps promote skin cell renewal, leading to younger, fresher looking skin.

Dry roasting pumpkin seeds in the traditional, high-temperature manner brings out their rich flavor, but often destroys some of their beneficial fatty acids. Here at EatSeed we take it a step further by caramelizing our seeds in organic light brown sugar and spices. Then we slow roast them in small batches with no oil, no preservatives, no additives at a low temperature preserving all the flavor and healthy benefits.     I was simply excited when I saw that EatSeed.com was offering flavored seeds. I was skeptical of purchasing CinnaSweet, but my wife insisted as she loves anything with cinnamon. I ordered the seeds on Saturday and to my amazement, the seeds were in my mailbox on Monday by 10 am. Now that’s a quick turn around. I was excited to try this new product. I opened the package and poured a hand full of the seeds and within seconds, my mouth was in heaven. The flavor was surprisingly delightful. There was a mild cinnamon flavor, that was not over powering, and allowed for the slight roasted flavor to tickle my pallet. I had most of my 4 oz purchase gone before I realized that the seeds were purchased for my wife, not me.

    I have not found another store, website or market that sells flavored seeds like this. Great product EatSeed!

    I debated about purchasing this product… it sounded amazing, but would it really be good? YES! I will definitely have to order more. These seeds were great. The delivery was received super quick and I am glad it did. I think this is a perfect snack if you want something crunchy or something sweet. I am very pleased with this item. My daughter thinks they are pretty amazing too!
